According to writer, speaker, and entrepreneur Brandon Burchard, “Two things can change your life. Either something new comes into your life or something new comes from within.

I’d add that it can be a bit of both: something new comes into your life and triggers a cascade of chain reactions within.

Personal Transformation

In this week’s YouTube video, I discussed how these 3 words – “Reflect, Redefine, Rise” turned my approach to work and health on its head.

Here’s the link in case you missed it: Watch the Video.

We are all programmed. Even Tarzan inherited his worldview from his caregivers.

Most of us also had peers and people we admire shaping our perspectives. Reflecting on our beliefs periodically is crucial because things change.

That’s the essence of rethinkentrepreneur.com’s tagline:Reflect, Redefine, Rise

Reflect on what we believe to be true.

Redefine our views with new information.

Rise to the occasion by acting accordingly.

Exploring Self-Employment

Reflecting made me question why we invest so much into employment and often feel unappreciated, poorly treated and compensated.

This pushed me to explore self-employment. Here are a few benefits I found:

Tax Benefits: you can write off expenses and you get taxed on profit, not turnover.

Flexibility: Freedom to make your own schedule and explore various ways to earn.

It took years to shed my employee mentality, but now, I can’t imagine going back.

Diversity: in my self-employment journey, I’ve been a market researcher, online educator, entertainer, cleaner, and courier.

A decade ago, boxed in by my narrow perspective, I would have never thought this possible. But it is, and I and countless others are living proof.

Next Steps

The next step is to live off my creations. As possibilities of retiring are dwindling in these shaky economic times, why not do something I can do for as long as I live?

What about you? Have you ever considered self-employment? What’s holding you back?
